Rush – quite possibly one of the best movies ever

10 Sep

i know this movie is now kind of old – but Rush is the kind of movie that seems to touch my heart and soul every time i watch it! and i watch it a lot! a lot a lot!

a lot of people think this is just a movie about formula 1 – to a certain extent it is – it is a movie about James Hunt and Niki Lauda, and their famous rivalry on the race track! but it is a movie that is much more than that, it is a movie about passion… about following and living your dreams!

there are a couple of movies every year that leave you with a lasting impression, perhaps a sniffle, a tear and quite possibly the churning of the wheels in our heads – they provoke thought and they inspire!

this is it! Rush is a primary example of what

Trailer: 50 Shades of Grey

Well…its no surprise everyone will be talking about this till Valentine’s day since everyone was so crazy about the books. I honestly read the first one, half of the second and then lost interest. Watching movies is always more interesting to me, so I will be looking forward this one.

I can’t say I’m happy with the cast, I donno I just don’t see them as the right people for the characters, but I guess will have to wait and see.

What are your thoughts?

Documentary: From One Second to the Next

16 Aug

AT&T teamed up with filmmaker Werner Herzog for a half-hour documentary that looks at the lives of four families after accidents caused by people texting while driving. Some of the subjects are victims, others were the ones texting. But regardless of which side of the accident they were on, everyone’s life is irreparably damaged.

unfortunately, I sometimes text while driving, and am sure all of you do at some point. I don’t get why is it so difficult to stop this very dangerous habit, but I believe we can. Please don’t text and drive.

TV: Sex & the City

I have been very much into series lately, and I have NEVER thought that I would say this, but this show is actually really good! I have heard so many about it for the last decade till I was like “I need to know whats this whole fuss about”, so I got all the seasons and started watching them back to back. It took me a month many to finish them and I was sad too! Its soo funny, interesting and entertaining. What do you think about it?

What I was surprised about also are the movies! I didn’t expect them to be good actually, but I really enjoyed them too, I would probably watch them again.

So why I never thought I would like the show? well..simply because of Sarah Jessica Parker (a.k.a horse face). I never liked her, her acting or anything about her. I was shocked when I first saw her in season one (she looked very young…and…OK), comparing to how she looks in her latest movies! I also became to like her through the seasons, which shocked me even more, but she’s good!

Who would be my favourite character, well, I guess everyone would say this..SAMANTHA! she is absolutely hilarious. Whose yours?

Well..I think i had to let this out. Now next on the watch list is Game of Thrones and perhaps scandal.

Review: The Great Gatsby

17 May

i was super lucky to be able to watch The Great Gatsby before it was officially came out in Dubai – thanks to Tiffany & Co that had an event and had a private cinema viewing for everyone invited to the event… (you can read about that here)

The Great Gatsby – originally a book by F. Scott Fitzgerald – now a movie featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, Joel Edgerton, Tobey Maguire, and Carey Mulligan.

the official synopsis of the movie is:

“The Great Gatsby” follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz, bootleg kings, and sky-rocketing stocks. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy (Carey Mulligan), and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton). It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without of the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

my thoughts – it is an captivating movie with bold characters and portrayal of a time in America where the country was thriving and it was the life of excess and excitement – the flapper era! oh how i wish i could experience that time!

what i loved was how that period was represented – it was beautifully done! the costumes, the glamour, the houses.. i really felt consumed by the movie… it was almost if i was there and looking in…

i don’t want to reveal too much – but the change in your feelings towards the characters changes drastically throughout the movie, and towards the end, you don’t see most of the characters in the same way you did in the beginning…

what i didn’t like s much was the ending – just because you have more hope that people are less selfish and less self centered…

for me, i loved the first hour and a half a lot more than the last bit… but all in all.. i would say a definite must watch – a gripping tale of love, lust, desire, selfishness and purity…

if you have seen it – let me know what you think :)

popcorn @ tiffany’s?!?!

16 May

yesterday, my friend managed to score an invite to the Tiffany & Co event – they were showcasing The Great Gatsby jewellery and giving out cinema tickets for the movie in a private showing @ Dubai Mall!

everyone was dressed sooo glamourously! and the ushers had little flapper dresses – they looked absolutely stunning!!

so her and I went along – and wow! the whole event was soooo well organised! it was super impressive.. we walked into the store and had a quick look around the jewellery! it was sooo beautiful…

and then we were escorted to the mall taxis – with dressed up chauffeurs – who took us to the cinema… it was so surreal! being all dressed up and being inside a mall on this little car… when we got upstairs to the cinema – we were served popcorn and drinks (in a Tiffany’s cup! how lovely!!)

the cinema was made up entirely of gorgeously dressed people – it just felt very odd being dressed up in a cinema – i loved it!

at the beginning of the movie – we learnt a lot about how F. Scott Fitzgerald had a close connection to Tiffany & Co – it was very dear to him and a usual choice for gifts…

and the movie was just amazing! (review to follow soon ;p)

i couldn’t take my eyes of some of the jewellery!

it was an amazing experience!!!!

I love u even more now TIFFANY & CO!
