Rush – quite possibly one of the best movies ever

10 Sep

i know this movie is now kind of old – but Rush is the kind of movie that seems to touch my heart and soul every time i watch it! and i watch it a lot! a lot a lot!

a lot of people think this is just a movie about formula 1 – to a certain extent it is – it is a movie about James Hunt and Niki Lauda, and their famous rivalry on the race track! but it is a movie that is much more than that, it is a movie about passion… about following and living your dreams!

there are a couple of movies every year that leave you with a lasting impression, perhaps a sniffle, a tear and quite possibly the churning of the wheels in our heads – they provoke thought and they inspire!

this is it! Rush is a primary example of what

Trailer: 50 Shades of Grey

25 Jul

Well…its no surprise everyone will be talking about this till Valentine’s day since everyone was so crazy about the books. I honestly read the first one, half of the second and then lost interest. Watching movies is always more interesting to me, so I will be looking forward this one.

I can’t say I’m happy with the cast, I donno I just don’t see them as the right people for the characters, but I guess will have to wait and see.

What are your thoughts?

Review: The Great Gatsby

17 May

the-great-gatsby-poster1-399x600

i was super lucky to be able to watch The Great Gatsby before it was officially came out in Dubai – thanks to Tiffany & Co that had an event and had a private cinema viewing for everyone invited to the event… (you can read about that here)

now…

The Great Gatsby – originally a book by F. Scott Fitzgerald – now a movie featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, Joel Edgerton, Tobey Maguire, and Carey Mulligan.

the official synopsis of the movie is:

“The Great Gatsby” follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz, bootleg kings, and sky-rocketing stocks. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy (Carey Mulligan), and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton). It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without of the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

my thoughts – it is an captivating movie with bold characters and portrayal of a time in America where the country was thriving and it was the life of excess and excitement – the flapper era! oh how i wish i could experience that time!

what i loved was how that period was represented – it was beautifully done! the costumes, the glamour, the houses.. i really felt consumed by the movie… it was almost if i was there and looking in…

i don’t want to reveal too much – but the change in your feelings towards the characters changes drastically throughout the movie, and towards the end, you don’t see most of the characters in the same way you did in the beginning…

what i didn’t like s much was the ending – just because you have more hope that people are less selfish and less self centered…

for me, i loved the first hour and a half a lot more than the last bit… but all in all.. i would say a definite must watch – a gripping tale of love, lust, desire, selfishness and purity…

if you have seen it – let me know what you think :)

yesterday, my friend managed to score an invite to the Tiffany & Co event – they were showcasing The Great Gatsby jewellery and giving out cinema tickets for the movie in a private showing @ Dubai Mall!

everyone was dressed sooo glamourously! and the ushers had little flapper dresses – they looked absolutely stunning!!

so her and I went along – and wow! the whole event was soooo well organised! it was super impressive.. we walked into the store and had a quick look around the jewellery! it was sooo beautiful…

and then we were escorted to the mall taxis – with dressed up chauffeurs – who took us to the cinema… it was so surreal! being all dressed up and being inside a mall on this little car… when we got upstairs to the cinema – we were served popcorn and drinks (in a Tiffany’s cup! how lovely!!)

the cinema was made up entirely of gorgeously dressed people – it just felt very odd being dressed up in a cinema – i loved it!

at the beginning of the movie – we learnt a lot about how F. Scott Fitzgerald had a close connection to Tiffany & Co – it was very dear to him and a usual choice for gifts…

and the movie was just amazing! (review to follow soon ;p)

i couldn’t take my eyes of some of the jewellery!

it was an amazing experience!!!!

I love u even more now TIFFANY & CO!

Sri Lanka: white water rafting

18 Feb

mainImage2

one of the days in sri lanka, we stopped in Kitulgala to go white water rafting!

it is incidentally the location where  The Bridge on the River Kwai was filmed!! as we were white water rafting we went were shown the bridge…

having never been white water rafting before, nor done much rafting in general (altho there was a brief stint once upon a time in highschool in Kuwait where we went to Messila Beach to compete in the raft racing competition) i was a bit nervous about what was to come..

we were on the beginners’ rapid (the name give to the intensity and difficulty of the rafting or something) – so we got there and were strapped into our life jackets! we had two guides as it was just my friend and i and we were given a quick 5 minute lesson (i may be exaggerating here – it could have been two)

the whole experience was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we didn’t have to row that much – the motion/stream of the river just carried us down and then we were given commands to hold on etc!

it was really cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! initially a bit worrying but we soon got confident! our guides threw us in the water to give us the true experience ;p and kept pulling us in and throwing us out again – it was really funny! luckily we weren’t scared!

we also got to swim in the river! and had the opportunity to try to stand in the raft while going through a small rapid!! :D

it was sooo coool!!!!!!!! if you are in Sri Lanka! White Water Rafting in Kitulgala is a must try!

Song of the Week: Pursuit of Happiness – Kid Cudi

5 Jan

I kinda got hooked to this song after watching Project X (which is a fun movie btw), it’s a bit different to my style of music, which kinda made me like it even more. The above song is the original, if you are more into techno dancy music, check out the version below which was featured in the movie.

Have a nice day everyone :)
