Zain’s Photography Competition @ 360
24 JunOk so before I start this post, and before you start guessing from the tone of my words yes am very disappointed…pissed…and feeling uncomfortable. If you wana know why, read the rest, if not…well i bet you know how to close the window.
I guess everyone knew how excited and thrilled about Zain’s Photography Competition (I already wrote 3 previous posts about it) and how bad i wanted to win (yes part of it is for the cash) so I can have a push and be able to be more exposed in the photography business. Some of you might not like it and say that am a sore loser that I just can’t accept it. Well call it whatever you call it, am gonna try to talk sense here…
I had so many thoughts about what Zain exactly wants from this competition before I submit anything. The only thing that I could think of is that they probably want to get to know more talented photographers in Kuwait where they can use them in small projects and through media and advertising. So I doubted the fact that they want any professional photographers, cuz they are already available in Kuwait if they really wanted them!! So through my photos, I tried my best to be very simple and not to go too far away from the subject…but looks like i was wrong…
I went to see the photos at 360 today. To my surprise there were maybe 15 to 20 photos atleast! 9 of them are winners the rest are just “Best Pictures”. To be honest, the winners did a great job, but its SOOO obvious that they are professionals. Most of the pictures were taken in a studio as you can tell from the backgrounds, if not, they were taken by very expensive lenses that could give amazing pictures even if you weren’t that good, and also not to forget how some of them were using extreme Photoshop. So congratulations to the winners. However, the “Best Pictures” that were picked were the ones that pissed me out the most. I just simply think that I and my friend’s pictures were definitely good enough to be among them. I was hoping to atleast see one of ours to feel proud, but sadly…no…
What bothered me also is my mum!! She wasn’t supportive at all, all what she kept on saying is that “They had better ideas” “These pictures are nice” bla bla bla!! Hellooooo!! If I was an amazing photographer there’s no way I can take a macro freaking photo with my Canon 400 freaking D!!!! I just felt so uncomfortable cuz she has no idea about how to take pictures and she’s telling me these pictures are better…that’s just not fair, all I told her was “well mum … how about you go buy me a new camera with all the lenses I need and give me a studio then we can have this conversation”!!
Anyway, am gonna leave you with some pictures now. Again, I would like to congratulate all the winners and the people who got the chance to have their pictures posted there, you have done a great job and you definitely deserve it. My only hard feelings are against Zain for not being too clear with the reasons behind the competition, not providing feedback (answering phone calls and questions) and not giving more chances for participants to post all the pictures or atleast the reasonable ones in 360.

ugh , im TOTALLY against photoshopped pictures , i really prefer and love a natural non messed with photo , i love to see the photo in the camera , on the wall or anywhere just like i see it in real life

I do edit some of my pictures, but my changes are minor that i only adjust the filter or cropping. but some of these pictures were photoshoped alot !!!!!

well sorry to hear that but you are totally right in some points. But the things you dont know is that there was a condition that max. 3 months old photos can be submitted only while some of the winners photos are older than 3 months !!!??
1st place winner is one of the judges in many of compt. in Kuwait so you can guess the rest ;)
Also it was nice that Zain look for wild life photo , i think coz they may join with National Geography Channel :P
1st Prize for THUB or Se7lia what ever is realy shock @@ in Tele. comp. compt. !!!

omg are you kidding me !!! i knew about the 3 months condition which made it harder for me !! i had a winner photo but it was older than 3 months ! goddd how unfair is that !
As for the wild life photos, well those were considered as Macro pics, but what shocked me is that the second place winner for Portraits (the pictures for 3 guys playing cards) is not really a portrait !! i think they have misunderstood what portraits mean !!!
I guess i have to let it go, but next time am participating, am winning, I PROMISE!

hmmm! some of these are really good mashallah!! im guessing u wont say which one was urs:P yallah hope u can win next time go get a more professional cam with really expensive huge heavy lenses and go travel and take great shots!!

zain photography SUCKS they don’t know how to choose the winner.. something you call it lucky person .. second winner better than the first

I just think if they have let the public vote that would have given more chances for ppl, or atleast display all entries.

Hi, Thanks for this…I think I saw you together with your Mom, anyways good luck on your shooting, don’t lose hope… the 1st place winner is a friend of mine and totally newbie in terms of Photography. He used Canon 500D with 55-250mm lens, by the way my entry is there, the lady wearing Blue cloth. Cheers!
